Situated in the heart of the Cotswolds, Hutchinson Furniture have been creating and making bespoke furniture for discerning clients for over twenty five years. We pride ourselves on creating timeless pieces of furniture that respects the environment in which it will be placed as much as it respects the very specific design requirements of its clients.
All of our Furniture is made in the Cotswolds. Our workshops are situated a stone’s throw away from our design studio and showroom. Working closely with Hutchinson designers our highly skilled craftsmen turn your vision into reality. Clients are encouraged to visit our workshops to follow the process of their commission.
Whether you would like us to design a coffee table or project manage an entire building renovation we are happy to help in any way.
We believe the design process is one of intimate collaboration between the furniture maker and client.
Each project begins in the same way, with a meeting on site or in our showroom. Together we develop ideas getting to know the clients requirements, and gaining an understanding of the context of their home in order to develop a design brief.
Our designers pride themselves on their ability to make good use of space.
Many concepts are explored, and submitted to the client in the form of technical drawings, and developed and considered. Only once the very smallest of details has been considered, and our client feels that the design is a true expression of their ideas, will work commence on the piece itself.
We feel nature provides an extraordinary array of colours, textures, and materials that enhance creative design possibilities. We enjoy a design challenge, especially if we can play around with beautiful woods and interesting finishes.
Bespoke handmade furniture and interiors require materials of exceptional quality, and an intimate knowledge of a wide range of timbers and techniques. We work closely with local land owners to source timber and have our own source of English hardwoods from our estate in Long Compton, for each tree that we fell three are planted in its place. Other fine timbers, such as walnut, oak, sycamore and burr elm are sourced from reputable timber merchants.
Our workshop conditions are controlled throughout the making of each piece of furniture, so that the wood’s perfection is maintained during construction and for the rest of the piece’s long life.
We complement the timber with materials such as metal, stone, glass and fine upholstery.
Working closely with the designer to achieve perfection our highly skilled craftsmen turn the client’s vision into a reality through the many processes of making, including many traditional techniques. Clients are encouraged to visit the workshop to follow the progress of their commission.
Whatever the project, we will personally deliver and fit your furniture and in many cases it will be fitted by the maker them self.
Whether we are delivering or fully installing a piece of fitted furniture it is undertaken with meticulous care and attention, we are happy to manage and liaise with builders, decorators and other trades to help make the process as enjoyable and as stress free as possible.
Although we control the climate in our workshop, bringing a piece of furniture into a new environment can course the piece to take on or loose moisture, coursing the wood to move.
We offer a lifetime guarantee, and will happily come out to maintain and service any of our furniture no matter how long ago it was made in order to keep the piece up to the high standards that our clients expect.
There’s something really quite pleasing about the contrasts between putting light and dark materials together. This is show in the bespoke kitchen we created in Macassar Ebony and American Black Walnut paired with a bright white Corian worktop.
This kitchen provides a touch of elegance and simplicity. A warming feeling is created through the use and combination of locally sourced oak and a dark granite worktop.
There’s a fantastic feeling of satisfaction when you finish a beautiful project like this one. Using a variety of woods made this an exciting and interesting project to work on.
Our client was undertaking a new build project and required functional furniture that’s aesthetically pleasing but would withstand the test of time in a busy household with young children. The large dresser was designed to act as both a drinks cabinet and extra storage for small and easily missed placed bits and bobs. The exterior […]
Our client based in Cheltenham was keen to create a truly unique kitchen that would contrast and compliment their beautiful Georgian townhouse. Marine grade birch ply took center stage in this kitchen. Our client was attracted to the laminating effect around its edge. When sanded and lacquered the edge of the board can be a […]
The Master bathroom was our first challenge in this project. Together we paired Crêma Marfil floor and wall tiles with glass splash backs that were back painted in Farrow & Ball Rectory Red and followed around the room at dado rail height, these were lit with an LED light strip. The main focal point of […]
The brief was to make a staircase that was clean, contemporary, and slightly edgy. With the attention on the design of the stairs themselves but also with bags of storage underneath.
The client wanted to create a contemporary wine cellar with a difference.
The aim of this project was to create beautiful arts and crafts style furniture that fits with the interesting geometric shapes running though out the house.
Situated in the beautiful parish of Whichford and Ascott in the North Cotswolds, this project was part of a larger renovation project managed by Hutchinson Furniture and interiors.
Our Kitchen redesigned and reconstructed from scratch in 2010.
Hutchinson Furniture came up with by far the best design ideas and even incorporated a design motif we had used in our hallway doors thus integrating the new with the older part of the house.
They stripped the kitchen to bare brick and concrete, even removing the ceiling so as to make installation of 23 light fittings easier. Their builder knocked through to the dining room and re-plastered where needed. Plumber, electricians and a long run by the kitchen fitter followed putting in place the units specified, designed and constructed to order.
Life is disrupted while the process goes on but it is well worthwhile when completed and we are still delighted with the result even after using it for over four years now.
We found them at the Grand Design Live Show at the NEC and their work deserves to be up there with the best of Grand Designs.”
We asked Hutchinson Furniture to design a bespoke bookcase, corridor table and another table. They were brilliant. The designs were exceptional, the craftsmanship exquisite and they delivered on time and in full. We are delighted with the results which enhance our home greatly. Thank you Will Hadland and team Hutchinson. We will be back!
When we decided to extend and design a new kitchen, we thoroughly researched kitchen companies in the Oxfordshire area. It was only after a chance conversation with someone that Hutchinson Furniture was suggested. From the initial enquiring phone call, to a site visit at their showroom and manufacturing unit in Long Compton, we knew we had found the right kitchen company for us. Their attention to detail, flexibility, communication, guidance, advice, and exceptional quality and customer care, has been exemplary. Choosing a local company who uses meticulously chosen, locally grown wood, was also a huge draw for us. Having a new kitchen is both exciting and a huge upheaval, however, Hutchinson Furniture were always there for us, every step of the way, delivering over and above with their customer care. Their kitchen fitters were also a credit – always well mannered, on time and tidy! Our kitchen is now the most popular room in our house, and we love and admire it on a daily basis! We have no hesitation in highly recommending Hutchinson Furniture and Interiors to anyone.
